Back at the Vantage Beach Hotel and Resort, we waited in earnest for Team RR to arrive. We knew that they were already in Lagos, but as at 5pm, they still hadn’t roared in to the venue. Grrrr…the wait was becoming unbearable. Sobag and Cony Love had rode in earlier to tell us that they were coming…but that was like two hours ago.

Then we heard the thunder as Team RR approached, led by a Road Safety escort with a siren. You could feel the joy and excitement in the air as the long line of bikes roared into the venue.

Hugs were exchanged in spite of sweaty bodies (boy was it a hot day!). Cups of ice cold juice were immediately handed around and quickly gulped down by the riders with requests for more.

The riders had a few hours to freshen up before they hit the COVA Lounge at MegaPlaza for their welcome party. After the club hangout, it was off to rest and get set for The Gathering the next day.

We were off to a slow start the next day, and with the scorching sun, everyone opted for the comfort of the shade of the outdoor restaurant whilst the activities kicked off, while some settled for taking selfies and photographs on the red carpet (which also happened to be in a shaded area, thankfully).

First off were the competitions for the awards of Thunderous Pipes, Colour Me Great, and The Transformer, which caused a lot of excitement and shouts from the crowd.

The winners of the competitions were Air Benda, Naib and Giza respectively. Argo Rääk of A41 MC also gave a little show burning rubber, which was loudly applauded by everyone.

With the awards competitions done, everyone migrated to the Lekki Leisure Lake for the second round of activities, which comprised of Course Rides, Family Relay, Couples Race and Beach Volley. Jack Affara emerged the winner of the Course Ride, while Adesua Obagun and her son Eliezer Obagun won the Family Relay, the Couples Race was won by Martin Isoje aka Dudus and his wife. The Beach Volley competition was won by the Ride Easy Motorcycle Club.

After all the physical activities, the evening paved the way for the awards ceremony and the highlight of The Gathering – the Lucky Dip. When all the Road Roar participants received certificates of participation from SCAN in recognition of their efforts towards the advancement of motorcycling in Nigeria, it was an unexpected gesture which was readily appreciated.

To crown it up, the Aprilia Shiver750cc, which was donated by Boulos Enterprises Limited, was won by Abubakar Umar of the Jewel Bikers MC, Gombe.

The inaugural The Gathering 2015 signified a big step for SCAN and the promise of a future filled with greater things.
